Basic Math Tutorials

Five (5) Foundational Skills in Math (The Eurekan Way!)

1. Good foundation in Mathematics

One of the major reasons why students hate Math is the lack of good foundation. Teachers in Eureka are well aware of this, and thus try to eradicate this fear by instilling the right attitude among students. How? Well, practice makes perfect!

2. Advanced Learning

Tutors in Eureka come from the most distinguished universities such as University of the Philippines, Ateneo De Manila University, and other prestigious universities in the country. Thus, students are guaranteed quality tutorials from experienced and competent tutors equipped to handle students even from International Schools such as Brent international School, International School of Manila, Southville Inernational School, as well as exclusive schools such as PAREF Southridge and Woodrose, Xavier University and De La Salle Zobel to name a few.

3. Adoption of Singapore Math

Singapore is a country known to have the best Math program in the world.Singapore math is the teaching method used from pre-school to elementary in Singapore. It basically involves three steps: concrete, pictorial and abstract. Initially, the students are instructed to use concrete things such as match sticks, dice, or chips to be able to visualize better the concepts. Then, they are to express mathematical concepts through drawing. When they already grasped the concepts, they are to solve problems in an abstract way by using numbers and symbols.

Eureka adopts the Singaporean Math as an alternative to traditional Math programs in the country.

4. Effective Appreciation of the Field of Mathematics

Kids nowadays are proven to be more visual – they tend to learn more using images and videos. Eureka! offers Math tutorials not in the conventional “give-a-problem-then-solve” way. Teaches in Eureka! use technology in the teaching and learning of Mathematics. Examples of these are videos of Math applications, pictures of everyday Math problems, and graphs shown by software.

5. Development of Critical Skills and Abstract Reasoning

Laboratory classes are not only for Science classes. Tutors encourage students to find ways to answer simple real life problems using Mathematics. By recognizing that there are different ways of solving a particular problem, tutors encourage critical reasoning through engaging and challenging exercises that are open- ended.Tutors act as guides to help students discover answers by themselves. Ultimately, Eureka aims to impart passion in Mathematics among students while developing their critical and abstract reasoning skills.

SAT 1 and 2 Tutorials

Scholastic Aptitude/Assessment Test Review (SAT I and SAT II)

sat

The Scholastic Aptitude/Assessment Test (SAT I) and the SAT Subject Tests (SAT II) are standardized tests taken by students who wish to study in the colleges and universities in the United States of America. These tests evaluate the academic readiness of students bound for American universities although the results can also be used when applying for other non-American universities such as the National University of Singapore, Hong Kong University, Tokyo University, and other prominent universities. Developed and published by The College Board, the SAT gauges English literacy and writing skills of students as well as their mathematical competencies.

Eureka’s SAT review program employs the principle of “learning by doing”. Carefully-crafted exercises are given to students to pinpoint areas of weakness. These areas of weakness are then addressed by tutors who correct misconceptions and provide exercises that reinforce understanding of essential concepts. Tutors in Eureka also act as raters to give the students a prediction of the score they are likely to get in the actual SAT. Based on the scores of past students, Eureka’s predicted score is within five (plus minus 5) percent of what students get in the actual SAT.

Eureka has successfully assisted hundreds of students in the Philippines to significantly improve their SAT scores. In 2013, John Lee, one of Eureka’s students registered a perfect SAT score after two months of review. In 2012, Peter Hyung, gained admission to UC Berkeley after achieving an SAT score that belonged to the top 5%.

Eureka’s Academic Tutorials

eurekacentre.comacademic tutorials

Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.”

- Albert Einstein.

Academic Tutorials provide valuable support to students of all levels. The increased demand for academic tutorials is in a way a reflection of the advancement in the curricula and programs offered by many institutions. Every year, new subjects in almost every perceivable area of knowledge emerge and the amount of knowledge created further creates other areas of knowledge in the process. The cycle is a never ending one and it likely that many of what we know now will be outdated in as short as five years.

It is parallel with this way of thinking that we at Eureka, as a tutorial center, approach academic tutorials. We offer a wide range of subjects that have benefited and continue to benefit students of all ages. As a tutoring center, we employ the most number of full-time tutors/teachers in Metro Manila in order to attend to the diverse and evolving needs of our students. Since our inception in 2007, we at Eureka have already helped thousands of students achieve academic success by providing intensive academic programs and comprehensive study materials that help improve skills and promote excellence by demanding persistence and collaboration. We believe that by teaching students how to think, and by demanding excellence from our students, we make sure that they can adapt to the ever changing intellectual landscapes that the future will surely bring.

It is our commitment to helping our students that we continue our journey with them. And we will persist.

The following are the subjects offered:

Higher Math refers to Math subjects offered in the last two years of senior high school, as well as those offered in college/university.This includes advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Differential and Integral Calculus, Non-Linear Math, and Differential Equations. These Math courses require extensive foundation in Math subjects such as Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry*.

Eureka offers tutorials for all Higher Math subjects. Some of the tutors in Eureka are Math majors and University professors who teach/have taught the same subjects in university. The Calculus by Louis Leithold is one of the books used in Eureka to teach Higher Mathematics.

Eureka offers a month-long intensive review program/ preparation for students who plan to enroll in the International Baccalaureate and Advance Placement Programs. The program includes a review of 12th grade Mathematics, Science, and critical reading. The students are also given an introduction to the Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.
